Hands-On Sustainability: Fix-It Clinics, Yard Waste, and Community Connection with Full Circle Sustainability

Welcome back to week three of our October Tenant Spotlight series! Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve explored Full Circle Sustainability’s origin story, their journey into the CRC CARE Center @ Stout, and how they are debunking myths about sustainable living to make low-waste habits accessible for everyone in Topeka.

This week, we are zooming in on the practical, hands-on side of Full Circle. Sustainability isn't just about big-picture goals—it's about everyday actions, community education, and learning how to fix rather than throw away.

Keeping Items Out of the Landfill: Fix-It Clinics and Swaps

One of the most exciting ways Full Circle brings the community together is through unique, hands-on events like their signature Fix-It Clinics and item swaps.

In a culture heavily driven by convenience and disposable products, it's easy to throw something away the moment it stops working. Full Circle's Fix-It Clinics challenge that mindset by providing a space where community members can bring in broken items—from lamps and small appliances to torn clothing—and work alongside skilled fixers to repair them. It saves money, reduces waste, and teaches valuable hands-on skills.

Similarly, events like their seasonal swaps (including the recent Holiday Décor Swap) give neighbors a chance to refresh their belongings without purchasing items brand new. These programs foster a culture of sharing and mutual care right here in Topeka.

Tackling Yard Waste and Composting

Full Circle's commitment to practical environmental action also extends to organic waste. Managing food scraps, yard waste, and compost can be a major hurdle—especially for apartment renters and city residents who lack the yard space or infrastructure.

Full Circle has been a vocal champion for expanding local composting and yard waste options. While navigating regulatory roadblocks hasn't always been easy, they continue to push forward for better local options. That hands-on community spirit is also visible in their upcoming volunteer-powered initiatives, like the upcoming Curbside Yard Waste Collection days.

Why the CRC CARE Center Matters

Behind all of these programs is a physical space that makes it possible. Since joining the CRC CARE Center @ Stout, Full Circle has experienced incredible growth. Over the past year alone, they have doubled their space, installed a large walk-in cooler, and are even on the cusp of hiring their first employee!

Having access to affordable rent, shared meeting rooms, media centers, and daily operational support has allowed a small-scale delivery service to blossom into a robust community hub.

Get Involved This Season

Full Circle’s work relies on strong community relationships. Whether you want to volunteer, attend an upcoming event, or simply help spread the word, there are plenty of ways to plug in this month:
