World Rainforest Day: Healthy Environments, Healthy Communities

June reminds us that strong communities are built through connection, strengthened by support, and sustained by collaboration. Every act of service, support, and kindness helps create lasting impact in the places we live, work, and call home.

Today, with World Rainforest Day, we are reminded that healthy communities and healthy environments go hand in hand. The spaces around us truly matter—our neighborhoods, our shared natural places, and the world we’re shaping for those who come after us.

At CRC, we’ve spent more than a century connecting individuals and families to resources, support, and hope right here in Topeka and Shawnee County. We believe caring for our environment is part of that same commitment: building safer, stronger, and more resilient communities for everyone.

Strong communities grow when we practice care in all its forms:

  • Care for one another through connection and support

  • Care for our neighborhoods and local spaces

  • Care for the environment that sustains us all

  • Care for future generations by acting thoughtfully today

Sometimes even small acts of kindness and stewardship can create meaningful, lasting impact. Whether it’s protecting shared spaces, planting a tree or caring for a plant in our own yards, spreading awareness, or simply looking out for our neighbors, every effort strengthens the community we share.

As we observe World Rainforest Day, we’re reminded that protecting the places we call home and supporting one another are deeply connected. Through practical steps and shared responsibility, we can all play a part in creating positive change.
